2 – 4 foot waves were consistent throughout the Second Round
The 1st Heat marked the level of intensity and level of surfing that would be present in this round. Rio Pro wildcard David Do Carmo eliminated the 3 time world champion Mick Fanning. In the 2nd Heat surfing legend Kelly Slater (11 time ASP world champion) beat Petterson Crisanto. Slater performed some epic carves and used priority to deny Crisanto what would have been his best wave. In Heat 3 Brazil’s favorite Adriano De Souza used well his “home court” advantage and moved onto the 3rd round. Heat 4 was the first heat with a Brazilian in it. Australian Julian Wilson pulled an outstanding backside 360 aerial, getting him 8.60 for that wave. Later in the 8th Heat, that beach got packed with locals wanting to see Miguel Pupo eliminate Aritz Aranburu. But Aranburu’s backhand carves came victorius ate the end.
Round 3 is expected to continue tomorrow unless the conditions change drastically. With the eliminations during round 2 the action and level of surfing will only get better.
